Biography

Dr. Loretta Bassion received her bachelor of science in nursing and master’s in nursing education from Holy Family University in 1989 and 2012, and her doctor of nursing practice from Drexel University in 2016 while exploring solutions to clinical issues through formation of expert working groups and process mapping. She then pursued a post-master's certificate as a family nurse practitioner from LaSalle University in 2017.

As a certified family nurse practitioner, Dr. Bassion continues to provide exceptional care to diverse patient populations with a passion for symptom management and palliative care in complex medical settings. She continues her practice as a palliative care nurse practitioner with Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and nurse educator role as assistant clinical professor at Temple University.

Her own personal nursing philosophy is based on ethical, empathetic and holistic care through practice, education, advocacy and leadership. These core values are reflected in her mission to provide quality care to all patients and promote excellence in nursing education by inspiring students to become autonomous, critical thinkers to advance the health of people locally and globally.

Dr. Bassion has extensive experience as clinical faculty and plays a critical role guiding students with application of nursing knowledge. Her research interests are symptom awareness and risk stratification as a means of early detection in certain cancers; a palliative care approach to reduce the burden of cancer through management of cancer-related fatigue; and risk reduction of cancer through promotion of innovative lifestyle modifications in the areas of ergonomics, weight reduction and sleep hygiene.

As a passionate and dedicated nurse practitioner and educator, Dr. Bassion has been honored for her industry accomplishments. She has been selected by her students for Daisy Award nomination, chosen by her co-workers for the Johnson & Johnson Promise of Nursing for Pennsylvania, and nominated for the “Saving a Life” award. She is also a member of National League of Nurses, American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Center to Advance Palliative Care, and American Society of Clinical Oncology.
