Biography
As an associate professor in the Department of Nursing at Temple University, Mary Stec brings over 30 years of nursing education experience, teaching in a broad array of nursing courses in the classroom and clinical areas. She contributes to the department's mission through her expertise as a nurse educator, assisting each student to achieve the learning outcomes of the undergraduate nursing program.
She has taught various nursing courses that include many specialties, and threaded throughout is consistent teaching in medical-surgical courses that include advanced medical-surgical concepts.
Recently, at Temple University, she developed Pharmacology for Generalist Nursing Practice as the first interprofessional course in the College of Public Health.
The experience that Mary brings to Temple University expands beyond the classroom to curriculum development and construction of effective evaluation methods. She has written items for both the NCLEX-RN as well as the certified nurse educator exams. She has served on multiple and varied committees in professional organizations for both the National League for Nursing and the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. Her research interest is clinical reasoning, and she has published research related to clinical reasoning in senior baccalaureate nursing students.
In participation of Faculty Governance, Mary has served on multiple committees, including as chair of the Curriculum Committee and president of the Faculty Assembly. Presently, she chaired the Program Evaluation Plan Committee and she is currently the elected president of the College of Public Health Collegial Assembly. Outside of the Nursing Department, she serves on Temple University Hospital’s Patient Quality and Safety Committee and is a board member of St. John Vianney Behavioral Health Center.
