Temple University's actuarial science program has been awarded the highest recognition of Gold Tier by the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) University Recognition Program.
The CAS, one of the main global credentialing organizations for actuaries, recognizes programs that demonstrate a strong focus on educating future property and casualty (P&C) actuaries.
“We are thrilled to receive this prestigious award from the Casualty Actuarial Society and its recognition of the outstanding actuarial science education and professional development opportunities we provide to our students,” says Jeffrey Boles, chair of the Department of Risk, Actuarial Science and Legal Studies at the Fox School of Business. “We deeply appreciate the support of the CAS and its recognition of our role in educating future actuaries in the property and casualty insurance industry.”
The CAS University Recognition Program offers three levels of acknowledgment – bronze, silver and gold. The gold tier recognizes institutions that meet critical criteria including offering dedicated property and casualty insurance courses, P&C representation on advisory boards, and successful placement of graduates into P&C field jobs.
Temple’s actuarial program prepares students for the probability, financial mathematics and modern actuarial statistics exams, and offers a P&C focused capstone writing course, alongside industry-relevant electives such as an Excel course and industry topics course.
One of the unique aspects of the Fox curriculum is the required Introduction to Risk Management course for all majors, focusing on enterprise risk management and covers a variety of property and casualty industry topics. Subsequent business and insurance courses build upon this foundation.
In addition, the Sigma Chapter at Temple, part of the national professional fraternity Gamma Iota Sigma, provides unparalleled professional development opportunities to students. These include professional development speaker series and luncheons with industry executives, resume and interview workshop, actuarial specific career receptions in addition to Fox Center for Student Professional Development support, networking opportunities with alumni, peers and employers, community service and charity fundraising projects, and social events to build lasting relationships.
The achievement of the Gold Tier recognition is a testament to Temple University's commitment to providing top-tier education in actuarial science and its role in shaping the careers of future leaders in the property and casualty insurance industry.
